Principal's Welcome

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Āria School where we aim to “Be The Best We Can Be” (Mission Statement).

We are a very passionate, experienced and hardworking staff with a wide variety of strengths, who strives to provide the very best we can for all the children in our care.

Our  “Open Door” policy encourages caregivers to play an active part in their children’s education.

We are extremely fortunate to have fulltime Teacher Aides in each classroom  to support student learning.  This invaluable support assists us in meeting the needs of all our learners. To add to this we employ another experienced teacher who works in the mornings with small groups of SWANs (Students With Additional Needs).  We give every child, at risk of not achieving, the very best opportunities we can to meet their learning goals.

All staff are involved in our strong Te Ao Māori programme which is offers daily Te Reo Māori sessions to all students as well as a weekly, whole school kapa haka programme. Our school performs at various times throughout the year including Matariki celebrations, kapa haka festival, prizegiving etc.

We are an extremely well resourced school with amazing playgrounds which include a turf court and a solar heated swimming pool.

Our strong EOTC (Education Outside of The Classroom) focus includes Board subsidised, annual weeklong camps for students in year 3 and above, as well as Leadership events, Science trips etc.

We host an annual inter-school Science Celebration in term 2 which attracts over 100 entries from many local schools.  We also host the interschool Orienteering event which attracts close to 400 entries from 13+ schools in the Waitomo District and beyond.

Our annual school production is a  community highlight and is held in mid term 3. This has been held for over 20 years now and attracts audiences in excess of 200 at each performance.

We host just one fundraiser each year (The Āria Two Day Trail Bike Ride).  This is a major focus which involves the whole Āria community. The funds raised help to subsidise the cost of school trips, Teacher Aide hours, a school mini-van etc.

You are always welcome to visit our school.  Feel free to contact me for further information.

Nau mai, haere mai,

Pam Voyce
